Fire safety is everyone's responsibility. The Geeseytown Community Fire Company encourages all residents of Frankstown Township and surrounding communities to review these important fire safety tips and share them with your family.

SMOKE ALARMS
  • Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas.
  • Test smoke alarms every month. Replace batteries at least once a year.
  • Replace smoke alarms every 10 years.
  • Never disable a smoke alarm — even temporarily.
ESCAPE PLANNING
  • Make a home escape plan and practice it with all household members.
  • Know at least two ways out of every room.
  • Choose a meeting place outside — a tree, mailbox, or neighbor's house.
  • Once out, stay out. Never go back into a burning building.
  • Call 9-1-1 from outside your home.
KITCHEN SAFETY
  • Never leave cooking unattended.
  • Keep flammable materials away from the stove.
  • Keep a lid nearby to smother small grease fires.
  • Never use water on a grease fire.
  • Keep children and pets away from the cooking area.
HEATING SAFETY
  • Keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet from heating equipment.
  • Have your heating system inspected and cleaned annually.
  • Never use your oven to heat your home.
  • Turn off portable heaters when leaving the room or going to bed.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
  • Replace damaged or frayed cords immediately.
  • Never overload outlets or extension cords.
  • Use the correct wattage light bulbs for all fixtures.
  • Have an electrician inspect your home if you have frequent circuit breaker trips.
CARBON MONOXIDE SAFETY
  • Install CO alarms on every level of your home.
  • Never run a car, generator, or grill inside a garage or enclosed space.
  • Have fuel-burning appliances inspected annually.
  • If your CO alarm sounds, leave immediately and call 9-1-1.
